Seven new sites identified to build more night shelters

The Delhi Government has plans to build more night shelters under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission and seven sites have already been identified in this regard. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Babul Supriyo in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

“The sites are in Gazipur, two each in Rohini and Dwarka, Narela and Nangloi Phase-II. Efforts are also underway for procurement of five more plots from the DDA for constructing night shelters including two each in Dwarka and Narela and one at Rohini,” noted the Minister.

He further stated that there are 12 night shelters exclusively for children with a capacity of 50 per shelter, seven shelters for women and children having a capacity of 50 each, and one exclusively for girls with a capacity of 50.

There are 16,600 homeless persons in Delhi, including children and old persons, and 184 functioning night shelters, the Minister told Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
