Seven drown while immersing Ganesha idols in Delhi

Seven young men drowned while immersing Lord Ganesha’s idols in the river Yamuna in different parts of the city on Wednesday. Several others were rescued by passers-by and the divers engaged by the Fire Department.

While five of the victims drowned in the river at Wazirabad, seven others were rescued. The deceased were identified as Yogesh (20), Rajesh (25), Toshi (25), Rahul (31) and Kale (31). During the idol immersion near Kudsia Ghat, two young men, identified as Bharat (20) and Sunny (22), are also feared to have drowned in the river. Another man, Kamal, was pulled out in time. Divers were engaged to fish out the bodies.

The Fire Department said they had received two calls of drowning from North Delhi.
