Seven persons were arrested in a joint raid conducted by the Gurgaon Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at a rave party in neighbouring Mewat in the early hours of Thursday. Over 100 men and women who attended the party at a farmhouse managed to flee when the police teams mounted the raid. Forty-four persons, including four women, were eventually rounded-up.

The police claimed that most of those present in the party were students, besides several BPO executives and employees of different event management companies. Aged between 20 and 26 years, the majority of those in the party belonged to Delhi.

“Initially, 44 men and women were detained at the spot, but only seven of them were found in possession of drugs and were arrested. The blood samples of the rest have been taken and they were let off. All kinds of narcotic substances and liquor were being served at the party,” said a Station House Officer (Tauru) Prateek Kumar.

The suspected party drugs that have been recovered from the spot include ‘performance-enhancing’ narcotics like crystal meth, charas, LSD, hashish, ganja and fine quality cocaine.

The raid was mounted on a specific information received by the Delhi Zonal Office of Narcotics Control Bureau about the rave party. NCB Delhi, Zonal Director, Rohit Sharma, shared the input with Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Virk and it was decided to conduct a joint raid after the preliminary verification of the information.

Led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Gurgaon, the raiding team comprised three Inspectors and about 35 police officers, including women police officers of the Gurgaon Police and Intelligence Officers of the NCB.

The venue of the party — Tiwari Farms — is located in village Bisar of Mewat district. “The farmhouse is located two kilometre off the main road and the party organisers had put up several signage on the way to give directions. Several precautions were also taken to alert the invitees in case of a raid. The locals told the police that the farmhouse has hosted many parties over the past and it was nuisance to them,” said an NCB official.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the invitations to the party were circulated on social networking website Facebook and WhatsApp and some of those present in the party may not even directly know the organiser. The participants were being charged an entry fee of Rs.1,000 each and were sold narcotics at the venue. Liquor was served in the party without any excise permit. The role of farmhouse owner is also being probed into. A case has been registered at the Tauru Police Station in Mewat.
