Servant held for killing senior citizen

December 10, 2010 08:10 pm | Updated 08:10 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A young domestic help who allegedly murdered an 82-year-old woman at Kirti Nagar here on Thursday night was arrested at Old Delhi railway station while he was waiting to board a train to Jharkhand.

Santosh Pahwa had been living in the rented accommodation with her grandson Dinkar Kalara for the past two years. They had hired a domestic help, Roshan Lal (19), through a placement agency in Karampura a few months ago. Around 10-30 p.m. on Thursday, Dinkar returned home from work and found the front door of the house locked from inside. When he did not get any response from his grandmother despite repeated knocks, he along with a friend removed a grill and entered the house from the rear side. He found his grandmother lying in a pool of blood and an almirah ransacked. The domestic help was missing.

Suspecting Roshan's involvement, the police contacted the agency through which he had been hired. Dinkar had also got his antecedents verified through the local police, which helped them get more information about him.

Teams were despatched to railway stations and bus terminals to prevent the suspect's escape from the city. He was finally traced to Old Delhi railway station around 6 a.m. on Friday and subsequently taken into custody. During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to having murdered the old woman.
