A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with multiple cases of snatching spanning nearly 15 years, the police said on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said Sandeep alias Kaliya, a resident of Mangolpuri who currently lives in Aman Vihar, is among the “top snatchers” in the Capital.

Stating that Sandeep committed several snatchings in a single day, Mr. Kumar said he is named in over 85 criminal cases and sections under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act have also been invoked against him.

The police said snatchings in Aman Vihar had increased and teams were working to identify the accused. “Footage from CCTV cameras was obtained and examined. The accused were identified as Sandeep and his accomplice Vikram,” Mr. Kumar said.

Vikram is out on parole from Tihar jail and was supposed to surrender on Thursday. While Sandeep was arrested from Keshopur bus depot following a tip-off, Vikram is absconding, he said.

“Sandeep was caught snatching in Chennai in 2017. He and other top snatchers were in jail from 2007 to 2012,” Mr. Kumar said.
