A 75-year-old woman was found murdered inside her residence in south-west Delhi’s Najafgarh on Friday morning, the police said.

The woman has been identified as Pushpa Rani, the police said, adding, it does not appear to be a robbery attempt.

A call was made to the Police Control Room (PCR) by Ms. Rani’s tenant, who lives on the first floor, stating that the senior citizen was lying unconscious in a pool of blood, the police said.

A team of police officers rushed to the spot and took her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The post-mortem is being conducted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

The deceased has wounds on the neck, a senior police officer said, adding they suspect she was murdered during the small hours as the blood had dried up.

‘An active woman’

Ms. Rani’s tenant told the police that the senior citizen was a very active woman.

On Friday morning, when she did not hear anything from the woman, she went to check on her and found the house open.

She walked in, spotted Ms. Rani lying on the floor in the kitchen and raised an alarm. Entry to the house seemed friendly, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh, said.

“We have registered a case at Najafgarh police station and have formed a team to crack the case,” he added.

The woman was a housewife and lived alone after her husband, who worked at a government school and died a couple of years back, the police said. She has a daughter, who is married and lives with her family in Rohini, they added.

No important item were missing from the house, the police said.
