A three-member selection committee has recommended Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Director (Works) Mangu Singh as successor to its Managing Director E. Sreedharan who is due to retire by this year-end.
The committee formally forwarded the recommendation to the Union Urban Development Ministry, the Delhi Chief Minister and the Delhi Lieutenant -Governor on Monday.
The selection committee comprised Union Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna, Dr. Sreedharan and Delhi Chief Secretary P. K. Tripathi. The committee was mandated to find a successor to the DMRC chief.
Last week, DMRC had shortlisted six people out the 35 applications received for the post of DMRC managing director. Among the other contenders for the post were Vipin Jha, Sudhir Mittal, Vijay Anand and R. K. Gupta from Indian Railways and DMRC Executive Director (Electrical) Sharat Sharma. Interviews were held on October 14, and Mr. Singh was found to meet the terms of reference and eligibility criteria.
Mr. Singh has been recommended for the post “in IDA pay scale of Rs.80,000-1,25,000” for a period of five years, beginning January 1 next year. Mr. Singh will be eligible for five year tenure.
Mr. Singh has been associated with the DMRC since the beginning, when he joined as deputy chief engineer and went on to become a director in the organisation.
Mr. Singh supervised the Airport Metro Express line, built on a public private partnership model with Reliance Infrastructure. He played an instrumental role in the construction of the metro line passing through the congested environs of the Walled City of Delhi, which also houses several archaeological monuments.
Mr. Singh has also been involved in the consultancy projects of the DMRC, and has helped prepare detailed project reports for metro systems in Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Hyderabad. He was also closely associated with the construction of the upcoming Kolkata Metro.
