A security scare was on Sunday triggered in three south Delhi malls bustling with weekend shoppers after a TV channel received a fax claiming that bombs have been planted there but it turned out to be hoax.
Police, which had a harrowing time on Saturday following bomb hoax at various locations, rushed to the DLF, Select City Walk and Metropolitan Malls which located close to each other in Saket and evacuated the visitors after the Hindi channel informed them about the purported threat.
Bomb disposal teams and dog squads joined the police in search operations but it was declared a hoax after an extensive survey of the buildings.
“Extensive searches were made and it turned out to be hoax. We are trying to locate and identify the person who sent the fax,” a senior police official said.
On the weekends, the footfall in these malls is higher than on the normal days.
Police were on their toes yesterday also after they received a series of anonymous calls about bombs being planted at various locations in the capital, including at a New Friends Colony hospital, Indira Gandhi International Airport and New Delhi Railway Station. All turned out to be hoax.
