The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the police to provide security to a 66-year-old “courageous” woman who allegedly faces a threat to life from her estranged husband over a Sainik Farm property dispute.

A Bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal issued notice to the city police commissioner and sought a response as to why an FIR was not lodged on her complaint about being “brutally” attacked by around five youths on Thursday. According to the woman, the assailants came at her husband’s behest and tried to chop off her thumb after she refused to give her thumb impression on some documents.

The Bench observed that the fact that the woman had approached the court a day after the attack showed “she had courage”.

‘Several injuries’

The complainant appeared before the court with a swollen face and injuries.

The court has posted the matter for hearing on July 11.
