A second first information report has been registered against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Dinesh Mohaniya within the past three days, after a man accused him of slapping him in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri on Friday.

Confirming the development, Joint Commissioner of Police (South-Eastern Range) R.P. Upadhyay said the case was registered under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident allegedly involving the Sangam Vihar MLA took place while he was on a visit to Govindpuri around 2 p.m. on Friday, said a senior police officer.

Protest

“Some women began protesting against him, telling him that he did not visit them when they were actually suffering due to poor water supply. They asked him to go back,” said the officer.

This allegedly led to a verbal argument between Mr. Mohaniya and the women.

“During the argument, the MLA allegedly slapped Ramesh Kumar, the husband of one of the protesting women,” said the officer.

A case was subsequently registered against the MLA, who is also the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board.

When The Hindu called the accused MLA for his version of the alleged incident, he claimed no FIR had been registered against him.

Mr. Mohaniya was in the news on Wednesday after a woman accused him of manhandling and misbehaving with her when she approached him over her water woes. The South Delhi district police had registered an FIR against him, even as termed the move a conspiracy by the water mafia and local BJP leaders.
