Despite the sky-high cut-offs and the uncertainty over the past few days, eager admission seekers continued to troop into Delhi University on Wednesday. Some of the top colleges in Delhi University are already filling up seats into their most coveted courses leaving out the possibility of a second cut-off list.
“There is still another day to go before admissions under the first list are closed, but we have already over-admitted students in our Economics (Honours) course, we have 123 seats but 129 seats have already been taken. There are a total of 501 seats in the college out of which 418 B.Com. seats have been taken,” said Shri Ram College of Commerce principal P.C. Jain. The college had declared 98.25 per cent cut-off for its Economics (Honours) course and 99.25 per cent for its B.Com (Honours) course.
Most of the North Campus colleges were chock-a-block with admission seekers. “The past few days were very difficult, we are glad the admission is finally over, at least for us,” said Deepa Dey, an admission seeker at SRCC who was from the Northeast.
Ramjas College had its English, History and Zoology courses full. “We got a lot of toppers from all over who wanted to get into only our college. So, we don’t expect any withdrawals. There were more admission seekers who came late. Our B. Com. course is also getting filled up quickly,” said principal Rajendra Prasad, whose college has around 1,300 seats on offer and has managed to fill up 670 seats already.
There were several students and their parents who had come to just weigh their options and some were relieved that the admission process was finally coming to an end after the upheaval of the past couple of days.
“My daughter missed St. Stephen’s cut-off by half a decimal point. She was extremely disappointed, but we are glad that she at least managed a seat here,” said Meha Mathur at Hindu College, which had around 250 seats filled on the first day.
Among the girls’ colleges, Miranda House had about 450 seats filled out of its 1,000 seats. “There will probably be a second list,” said principal Pratiba Jolly. At Lady Shri Ram College, the official figures had not yet been collected, but a total of 180 admissions were taken on the first day with a similar figure on Wednesday. The college did not leave out the possibility of a second list.
