The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), on the orders of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee, sealed basements and upper floors of 38 shops in Hauz Khas market on Monday.

SDMC’s building department officials said the establishments sealed included the basements of three banks — SBI, UCO and Bank of Baroda.

A meeting of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation House on Monday discussed the ongoing sealing drive, which is creating troubles for traders across the city.

North Delhi Mayor Preeti Agarwal asked the Commissioners to put up a proposal to waive interest and penalty on conversion charges as per provisions of the rules. “I have asked the Commissioner to look into the legalities. If we have the power we would like to give relaxation to traders on interest and penalty on conversion charges,” she said, concluding the special meeting of the House on sealing.
