SDMC asked to stop construction at AAP MLA’s residence

June 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A Vacation Bench of the Delhi High Court on Monday asked the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to stop the construction, alleged to be illegal, at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party MLA from the Kasturba Nagar constituency, Madan Lal.

The direction came on a writ petition moved by Mr. Lal’s neighbour, Ravinder Kumar, who alleged that the construction was being done in violation of building by-laws and other legal requirements. He said the MLA was trying to wield his political influence in raising construction.

Justice Mukta Gupta issued notices to the Delhi Government, SDMC, and Mr. Lal, returnable by July 27, while posing a question to the municipal body for delay in taking action after it issued a show-cause notice to the ruling party legislator.

The court directed the SDMC to ensure that no further illegal construction takes place and the demolition is carried out as per the legal provisions. The SDMC counsel informed the court that the municipal body had issued a work-stop notice to the police, seeking their action, and assured that a fresh notice would be shortly sent.
