High levels of pollution in Ghaziabad have forced the district administration to close primary schools on November 8-9. Schools in Gautam Budh Nagar, which comprise Noida and Greater Noida, however, will remain open on Wednesday.

A senior Ghaziabad administration official said that the city on Tuesday witnessed “severe” pollution.

“This forced the district administration to call a meeting to discuss the issue. In the meeting, also attended by officials of education and pollution control departments, it was decided to close primary schools (up to Class V) on November 8 and November 9,” the official said.

The order was issued by Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari.

The district administration has also stopped all construction activities for the next one week.

Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate B.N. Singh said that his office has decided not to close schools in Noida and Greater Noida.
