As parents begin their anxious wait hoping to secure nursery admission for their children in the school of their choice, schools across the city on Monday concluded the first phase of admission – ending the registration process.
Most popular schools in the Capital confirmed that they have received more registrations this year compared to the previous years with the number of applications from the Economical Weaker Section (EWS) also going up. “We have received 2,800 forms for the 134 general seats, while 120 have come for EWS,” said Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, Principal Jyoti Bose.
Bal Bharati Public School, Pusa Road, Principal L.V. Sehgal said: “This year we have received 3,700 applications for the 110 general category seats and hope to receive a very large number of applications for the 92 EWS seats that we have. This year the EWS applications can be submitted till January 18, so we are hoping to receive more applications in the next two days. We also have seats reserved for sibling, alumni and management for which candidates are allotted points. There is obviously a large number of applications against the few seats that are being offered.”
“All allotment of seats is being done using the point system given by the Delhi's Directorate of Education and this year the maximum number of points have been allotted for neighbourhood and sibling. We have received 2,860 applications for the general category seats so far and 318 in the EWS category. We have 110 seats in the general category and 44 in the EWS category while 20 seats are reserved for the school management,” said Laxman Public School Principal Usha Ram.
Schools will put up the first list of selected candidates on February 1, second and third list will be put up if required. “Most parents have applied in several schools and some schools will come out with the list before February 1 which has caused some confusion but we are hoping that after applying in 15 schools this year we will at least get admission in one school. We are prepared to take admission in the first school that our child is selected to and only after we secure admission in one good school will we take a chance anywhere else,” said Vaishala Raju, a resident of Central Delhi, who is seeking admission for her son in nursery.
