An anti-cracker rally was organised by the Kendriya Vidyalaya students on Tuesday to sensitise residents of Gole Market and adjoining area about the ill-effects of pollution caused by bursting of crackers.
The rally was flagged off by Delhi Environment and Forest Secretary Dharmendra and several senior Government officials were present. Mr. Dharmendra underlined the role of students in making Diwali eco-friendly and pollution-free. “On Diwali night pollution levels go up manifold and it becomes very inconvenient for aged people and asthmatic patient to breath. We should celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner,” he said.
Over 500 students from Gole Market and nearby schools participated in the rally which covered areas around Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Kali Bari Marg and Udyan Marg and finally terminated at the school. Students marched carrying placard and posters related to anti-cracker campaign.
Meanwhile, with Diwali just a few days away city doctors have said that people should take precautionary measures to ensure that they stay safe during Diwali.
Apollo Hospital senior cosmetic and plastic surgeon Dr. Anup Dhir said: “One also need to take care while enjoying the joyous mood of Diwali and should not forget to keep handy a first aid box. Ninety-eight per cent of burns are accidental and most of the victims are women and children below the age of 18. With a little care those injuries on face, hand and arms can be avoided.”
Delhiites are also advised to buy fireworks of reputed manufacturers only. “Children and adult should be told not to carry fire crackers with them in the pockets also if anyone's clothes does catch fire the rule to follow is to not run but drop to the ground and roll to put out the flames. Don't wear loosely hanging clothes; secure all clothes properly,” added Dr. Dhir.
Delhi-based plastic surgeon Dr. Anup Dhir (9312377554) and New Look Cosmetic Skin Laser Clinic (9212264046) have launched an emergency helpline number which will put patients through to the doctor himself. The 24-hours helpline will start functioning from November 3 and will be operational for eight days.
