The “Save DU campaign” on Monday submitted a memorandum to the new Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani stating that the Delhi University administration was bypassing procedures and introducing courses at a will without requisite approvals.

It also accused it of diverting funds from the UGC OBC expansion scheme into the four-year undergraduate programme. “The admission prospectus says that the university is offering a new B.Tech in Forensic Science. This is even as Delhi University has called a meeting of the Academic Council to approve of this course. Similarly, the university has also unilaterally diverted funds to the tune of Rs. 170 crore from the OBC expansion grants, meant for general upgradation of infrastructure, to purchase laptops exclusively meant for the FYUP-batch students,” said Abha Dev Habib, main organiser of the Save DU campaign, which protested outside the MHRD ministry on Monday for the roll-back of the course.

Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad carried out a special “havan ” in front of the Arts Faculty enclosure. “This is to invoke God’s blessings to somehow make the Vice-Chancellor change his adamant and anti-student stance and revoke the FYUP,” said ABVP State secretary Saket Bahuguna.
