The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to undertake a “special sanitation drive” in the Capital aimed at ensuring cleanliness around temples and mosques ahead of the coming festivals of Janmashtami and Ramdan.

MCD Standing Committee chairman Yoginder Chandolia has directed deputy commissioners of all the 12 municipal zones to constitute task forces for improving sanitation which would be headed by the assistant commissioner of the respective zone.

“During the holy fasting month, there is a lot of activity around mosques, markets and streets. Sanitation and street-lighting should accordingly be properly managed. Special staff if required would be deputed in the evenings and nights for the purpose. Similarly, the festival of Janmashtami is also falling in this month and the same arrangements should be made around the temples for celebrating the festival," he added.

The chairman also said he would be visiting various areas to inspect cleanliness and if laxity is found, the head of the task force would be held responsible.
