A day after a sudden dust storm and heavy rain lashed Delhi, the District and Sessions Judge (South) was forced to issue a circular directing all staff at Saket Courts Complex to ensure that they close their windows before leaving for the day.

The circular was issued on Monday by District and Sessions Judge (South) Asha Menon. Ms. Menon specifically referred to Sunday’s thunderstorm, which brought much-needed respite from the heat but left court documents “flying out the open windows”.

“All officials posted at the Saket Court Complex are directed to shut the windows of their respective courts/ branches properly before leaving the office in the evening. It was noticed during the storm on Sunday that certain papers/documents were flying from the open windows... Fortunately, no important paper/document was lost,” the circular read.

‘Strict action’

“Lapses in compliance will be viewed seriously with consequences of disciplinary action,” the circular further read.

A court staff posted in a branch at Saket court said it is the duty of the staff and caretakers to see that all windows are properly shut as there are important papers in their custody. Another staff said that most of the court complex is air-conditioned and therefore there is hardly any need to open the windows in the first place.
