Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was on Tuesday called for questioning again by the Home Ministry-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is re-examining the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases.
Second time
This was the second time since January that he was called after being summoned as an accused. A member of the SIT told The Hindu that Mr. Kumar was questioned at length about a specific case, that of two members of a family being burnt to death and four others getting injured on November 1, 1984 — a day after the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi.
No chargesheet
While he did not disclose the identity of the victims, the SIT member said that their family has accused Mr. Kumar of “leading a mob of thousands and inciting them”. The FIR in the case was filed but the chargesheet wasn’t, said the SIT member.
Earlier in January, Mr. Kumar was quizzed regarding some of the 59 cases the SIT has narrowed down from nearly 300 complaints registered after the riots. “This time we asked him pointed questions regarding his alleged role in the murder,” said the SIT member.
