Residents Welfare Associations have demanded that the Delhi Government attempt to solve problems of pollution, traffic jam, women’s security and waste management.

In a letter to the government after the latter asked for suggestions about the Delhi Budget, which is scheduled to be presented in June, the East Delhi RWAs Joint Front has put forward 10 demands.

“Delhi has become the most polluted city of the world and therefore, pollution monitoring systems must be installed in every Assembly seat to track the pollution level regularly. These monitoring systems must be under the direct control of the committees of local RWAs, so that any warning issues could be raised immediately,” the letter, written by its president B S Vohra, said.

Mr. Vohra also asked the government to take steps to solve the traffic snarls through a hi-tech mechanism. .

Installation of CCTV cameras at every strategic location was among another demands with the front suggesting that the government provide remote-triggered alarm devices at cheaper rates.

“Drainage systems must be strengthened as the entire city faces massive water logging during monsoon. Inner roads of the city have a large number of pot holes. All the new roads must be laid with some better technology and material to avoid pot holes,” Mr. Vohra said.

The front also sought relief for patients those who have to stand in queues at hospitals.

Radiation from mobile towers was also a cause for concern.

“The government must conduct routine checks of various mobile towers and its reports must be uploaded on the Delhi Government websites. Moreover, there must be no charges for checking the radiation level of any mobile tower in the city, if forwarded by any of the registered RWAs,” he said.

The front has also demanded that RWAs be strengthened and brought into the mainstream as done earlier under the Bhagidari scheme of the Delhi Government.

“The Collector office must call regular meetings with RWAs to understand the local issues. We are expecting even meetings with the CM and all the top brass,” the letter added.
