Rs.400 crore more for Delhi Police

Hike meant for personnel training, traffic infrastructure

The Delhi Police will get nearly Rs.400 crore more in the Budget this year as compared to the last fiscal, thanks to the allotment of Rs.4,653.19 crore. This increase is for sprucing up the training of its personnel and traffic infrastructure.

The Delhi Police, which is responsible for maintaining law and order and traffic management in the Capital, had pushed for meeting expenses for personnel training and improvement of technology in this Budget. The police have been allotted a total of Rs.67.90 crore under the plan head and Rs.4,585.29 crore under non-plan expenditure.

The total allocation of Rs.4,653.19 crore in this Budget is Rs.393.99 crore higher than Rs.4259.20 in 2013-14.

There is a substantial increase in fund allocation for construction of residences for the Delhi Police personnel — Rs.123.90 crore have been allotted for the purpose this year against the Rs.70 crore earmarked last year.

A sum of Rs.253.38 crore has been allocated for construction of buildings for the Delhi Police, which is Rs.81.38 crore higher than the Rs.172 crore earmarked in the last Budget.

Allocation for installation of traffic signals in the Capital has also increased by Rs.7 crore to Rs.11.50 crore as against Rs.3.46 crore in the last Budget.

Similarly, Rs.11.37 crore has been allotted for ‘developing traffic and communication network in NCR mega cities and model traffic system’. In 2013-14, Rs.7.51 crore was allotted for the same.

For upgrading training facilities, Rs.4 crore have been allocated, while Rs.44 lakh has been allocated for induction of latest technology.

The Budget also includes allocation for the scheme of backend integration of distress signal from victims with mobile vans and control rooms, which will be met from the Nirbhaya Fund.
