Two men, including a former Customs clearing agent, have been arrested by Delhi Police Crime Branch here for allegedly supplying ketamine, a psychotropic substance used in rave parties in the Capital.
The police said ketamine worth Rs.1.6 crore has been recovered from them. The drug, commonly used during anaesthesia, is distilled, evaporated and condensed to form a powder by the smugglers.
“Following a tip-off on Tuesday that Shakurpur resident Suresh Chand Yadav will reach Sainik Vihar to deliver a consignment of ketamine a trap was laid. Suresh was arrested with one kg of the substance,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) S.B.S. Tyagi.
During interrogation, Suresh purportedly revealed that he was lured into supplying ketamine to event managers organising rave parties in Delhi by one Sanjay, who told him it would fetch good money.
“A hunt was launched for Sanjay and he, too, was arrested the following day. At his instance another 15 kg of ketamine was recovered,” said Mr. Tyagi.
Sanjay purportedly told the police that while working as a Customs clearing agent, one Atul Kumar Aggarwal offered him 10 per cent cut on the international value of drug smuggled out to Malaysia and Canada. Sanjay accepted the offer and started sending Atul’s consignments to Malaysia, concealed in leather toys and mehendi packets.
In July last year, Atul and his accomplices were arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at Indira Gandhi International Airport here. Sanjay, who managed to evade arrest back then, stopped going to the airport since, said the police.
