Pankaj Mehra, the husband of Priya Mehra - who was shot dead in the early hours of Wednesday near Rohini prisons complex - was arrested for allegedly killing his wife, the police said on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said that Pankaj had confessed to the crime. “There were discrepancies in his version of the story. On sustained questioning, he confessed to killing her,” he said.
Pankaj told the police that he owed nearly ₹40 lakh to a Sonipat-based moneylender who had been threatening him and his family to return the money. The police verified his claims but also found that the relationship between the husband and wife was strained.
According to the police, the motive behind the murder was to use this as an opportunity to get rid of the debt by framing the money-lender and also to return to his first wife.
More details in the case will shared soon, the DCP said.
