Road rage leaves man battered in Rohini

May 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:29 am IST - New Delhi:

In the second such incident reported in the Capital in as many days, a 35-year-old man was thrashed by three men when he asked them to make way for his car in North-West Delhi’s Rohini on Sunday evening.

The accused are also alleged to have misbehaved with his aged parents, smashing his WagonR car, and robbing his gold ring, as per his complaint to the local police. One of the accused, later identified as Mayank, was arrested from the spot while his other two associates managed to flee.

The victim was identified as Amarjeet Chopra, who suffered multiple injuries to his head, and was discharged from hospital late on Sunday night. The incident occurred on a jammed road in the area around 9 p.m. when he was driving his parents Premdas and Rani to attend a family function. He stays at Rama Vihar in Sector 8 and he is employed as an executive with a private company.

“As Mr. Chopra’s WagonR reached near the Ambedkar Hospital, it accidentally brushed past a Swift Dzire car due to lack of space. He then asked the driver of the car to reverse his vehicle so that he could drive past,” said a police officer.

“But the three men in the car refused to budge and, instead, began abusing him for brushing past their car. That turned into a heated exchange between the two parties, which quickly turned violent,” the officer said.

The three then allegedly dragged Mr. Chopra out of his car and thrashed him. When his parents tried to intervene, they too were pushed away and verbally abused, the police were told. The accused apparently did not stop at that as they went about smashing the windscreen of Mr. Chopra’s WagonR car.

The suspects had fled by the time the police arrived. Mr. Chopra was admitted to the Ambedkar Hospital where his head wounds were stitched up before he was discharged.

“A case of assault, criminal intimidation, and wrongful restraint, among other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Rohini North police station. We are looking for the remaining accused,” the officer added. A similar incident, perpetrated by four men, had left a businessman in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh severely injured on Saturday.
