Restrictions on drawing groundwater

April 26, 2014 09:59 am | Updated May 21, 2016 01:30 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Government on Friday issued a notification prohibiting illegal groundwater drawal in the city to prevent the depleting the groundwater table. The notification authorises the Delhi Jal Board and the New Delhi Municipal Council to grant permission for groundwater drawal.

The government has also asked owners of tube wells and bore-wells to make voluntary disclosures within three months.

An application form for disclosure has been made available on the DJB and the Department of Environment websites.

The exercise aims at creating a data base of the bore-wells and tube-wells in the Capital and will enable the government to make judicious policies towards drawal of groundwater keeping in view of the alarming decline in groundwater table in Delhi.
