Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday directed all MLAs to submit complaints on power outages, which last for more than one hour in their areas, to the Delhi government. The government said it “will ensure” that discoms compensate consumers for the unscheduled power cuts.
Discoms to pay
Mr. Kejriwal held a meeting with MLAs and officials of all three power distribution companies (discoms) on Tuesday. The move comes after the government received several complaints of outages from areas like Badli, Seelampur and Shahdara.
“We have asked the MLAs to give complaints of power cuts lasting more than one hour so that discoms could be penalised,” said Delhi Power minister Satyendar Jain.
In May, the government had announced that discoms will have to compensate the consumers for unscheduled outages extending up to two hours and penalties could go up to Rs. 100 per hour.
In the meeting, discom officials informed Mr. Kejriwal that 250 transformers need to be installed to provide new connections and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
“Out of 250 transformers, 20-25 will urgently be installed,” Mr Jain said.
