Relief for assistant prof.

July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:14 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The arrest of former St. Stephen’s Bursar Satish Kumar, accused of molestation by his Ph.D student, was stayed by the Delhi High Court on Friday.

Mr. Kumar had challenged the lower court’s order declining him anticipatory bail. He cannot be arrested till the next date of hearing, August 17. A notice was also issued to Delhi Police, asking them to file a status report in the probe.

However, the court of Indermeet Kaur specifically directed him to co-operate and join investigations as and when required. Mr. Kumar’s counsel claimed the allegations were concocted and that there were no eyewitnesses. The counsel also stated that the accused could not have molested or stalked the victim as he was 85 per cent disabled.

The victim’s lawyers have said she was molested on October 15, 2013, in the chemistry laboratory. After this, the accused allegedly started stalking her and even called her mobile close to 25 times.

The lawyers said his custodial interrogation was necessary since the police needed to check his call records. It was also added that he had threatened to throw acid on the victim if she refused to wear a saree of a particular colour. He is also accused of withholding her stipend.
