“Releasing Rajiv’s killers will send wrong message”

February 22, 2014 10:47 am | Updated May 18, 2016 10:09 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), an apex body of over two dozen Muslim groups, on Friday termed the move of the Tamil Nadu Government to release those convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case an instance which will send a “wrong signal” to the country.

AIMMM president Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan said it showed “double standards” practised by the system. “Afzal Guru was hanged in undue hurry, without being given the last legal recourse and without his family’s knowledge and here Rajiv’s killers are being released! This kind of instance would only be a setback to the perception that Indian system is just,” Dr. Khan said.
