The Delhi BJP in a memorandum submitted to the V.K. Shunglu Committee investigating alleged corruption in the Commonwealth Games has demanded that as prima facie evidence of discrepancies exists in many Games-related projects, cases be registered against accused persons.
Senior BJP functionaries led by BJP state president Vijender Gupta and Madan Lal Khurana visited Mr. Shunglu at Vigyan Bhawan Extension on Monday to submit the four-page memorandum.
The BJP alleged that the many agencies probing the Games-related corruption were merely focussing on tenders and documents and questioning middle-level officers who were “only conduits and doing the bidding of their political masters. Ultimate beneficiaries should be found out,” the party demanded.
The opposition party also demanded investigation into the diversion of funds meant for Scheduled Castes welfare to Games-related works though the particular fund was “non-transferable”. The memorandum also alleged losses to the treasury through purchase of medical equipment at prices four to five times higher than the market rate.
Among the other projects which the BJP alleged that irregularities occurred include construction of flyovers and bus shelters, up-gradation and renovation works at five stadiums.
