Rapid Metro has touched a total of 50 lakh ridership since its launch on 14 November last. The ridership has seen a continued and gradual increase along with the opening of each of its new stations.

According to the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) spokesperson, the metro saw a notable increase in the ridership with the opening of Cyber City Metro station in May. At present, the peak ridership is 42,000 riders per day with maximum ridership of 11,000 coming from this station.

To ensure quality service and convenience of the commuters, Rapid Metro is introducing a free AC shuttle service in locations having clusters of IT-BPM companies. In its pilot phase, for the first six months, buses from Vodafone Belvedere Tower station will connect commuters from Udyog Vihar. The route for the shuttle service will be from Belvedere Tower station to Unitech Infospace in Udyog Vihar via Trident Hotel. Shuttle will run from Monday to Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“We see a lot of commuters coming from Udyog Vihar and this is reflected through the Cyber City station’s highest footfall of 11,000 riders daily that has been achieved in just three months of opening. Our air-conditioned buses will run on high frequency to enable corporate employees to reach their office in time and comfortably,” said RMGL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sanjiv Rai.

As the Metro system is now fully operational with all its six stations opened, Rapid Metro has discontinued its promotional fare of Rs.12. Beginning August 1, the initial fare has been fixed at Rs.20, as per the Metro Act.

“The fare hike is an imperative for the financially viability of the system. However, we have kept the fare reasonable based on the ground realities. Our focus now is to offer allied services that make the commute convenient for travellers,” said Mr. Rai.
