With trial runs due to begin this October, the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited is all set to start operations in the Millennium City next door by March next.
The RMGL team, which is working round-the-clock to ensure faster completion of the project, is now giving final shape to civil works. Track laying has already started and is expected to be completed soon.
The trains are being manufactured in China at the CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd. The trains will be arranged by Siemens of Germany which has the contract for the rolling stock.
According to a RMGL spokesperson, the assembly work for the first set of train has been completed and mandatory static tests like mechanical and electrical have been done. The dynamic test of the train is going on at the test track and will be completed by the first week of July.
Once the pre-inspection test is completed, the first train set will be shifted to Shanghai port in July and is expected to reach the Mundra post in Gujarat in four weeks, from where it will be taken by road to Gurgaon. The train is expected to reach the city after August 15 and the trial runs are due to begin on October 2.
The first fully privately financed metro of the country will bring in the light weight aluminium-bodied trains. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities, the light weight coaches will ensure lesser noise during movement and would require less maintenance. Special sound absorbing cushions in the walls of the coaches and more buffing on doors will ensure that less sound from outside enters the trains thus enabling the passengers to travel in a better ambience.
The coaches will also provide a much better level of passenger comfort as humidity sensors will activate the newly planned heating system of the air-conditioner which will eliminate humidity inside the coaches. The temperature will be maintained at 25 degrees Celsius.
The trains will also have closed-circuit television cameras inside the coaches apart from cameras outside the coaches so that the driver can see the entry and exit of passengers from the train. The driver of the metro trains will be able to observe passenger behaviour in every part of the train at all times.
The RMGL trains will have a maximum speed of 80 km per hour.
The system will be synchronized with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation trains so that the passengers don’t have to wait for long to switchover from Delhi Metro system to Rapid Metro or vice-versa.
