Rape accused from Bihar held

A 19-year-old youth, who is an accused in the gang-rape and murder of a girl in Bihar’s Sitamarhi five years ago, was arrested on Tuesday.

Escaped in 2014

The accused, Arjun Mahto, escaped from custody in 2014 and had been living in Delhi ever since. Surender Kumar, DCP (South-West), said Mahto was procuring weapons so that he could form his own gang in Bihar.

He was arrested after the police received a tip-off about his presence in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. Police said the motorcycle recovered from his was found to be stolen.

Mahto was a juvenile when he and his three of his associates allegedly gang-raped a girl before killing her. He had been on the run for a year before he was nabbed by the local police.
