Rampant, illegal construction in Sainik Farms: High Court

April 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:12 am IST - New Delhi:

Pulling up the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and the Delhi Police for unabated unauthorised constructions in the posh illegal South Delhi colony, Sainik Farms, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought CBI’s response to discuss the possibility of its investigation by it.

A Division Bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva asked the Standing Counsel for the investigating agency to appear before the Court on May 15 to discuss the possibility of investigating the illegal constructions by it.

Unauthorised constructions were going on in the posh Sainik Farms.

Neither the municipal body nor the Delhi Police has anything to show on it except a few prosecutions and demolitions, that too in a pick and choose manner, the Bench observed.

Despite earlier directions that no trucks carrying construction material shall enter the colony, many buildings had been built.

Even the SDMC admitted in its affidavit that about 700 buildings had come up there after 2007, the court stated.

It also directed the SDMC and the police to file a list of the officials who were deployed there to prevent unauthorised constructions after the court’s directions in January 2001.
