Actor Tom Alter will play Sahir Ludhianvi in a play titled ‘Parchhaiyan’.

The history society of Ramjas College is organising its annual History Festival on March 24-25.

It will combine academic seminars with fun events, that include actor Tom Alter playing Sahir Ludhianvi in ‘Parchhaiyan’, a play written and directed by Suhail Akhtar Warsi.

Day One will see with student presentations, a quiz, treasure hunt, short-film competition and photo exhibition, followed by a Dastangoi titled ‘Dastan-e-Aawargi’, directed by Mahmood Farooqui, on poet Majaz at 5.30 p.m. Tom Alter will perform after this at 6.45 p.m.

On Day Two, panellists V. Geetha, Umesh Bagade, Apoorvananad and Uma Chakravarti will participate in a seminar titled ‘Remembering Tulsiram-Dalit Experience: Literature and Politics’ from 9.45 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. From 6.30 p.m. onwards, Pakistani qawwals Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad will perform.

Associate Professor of History Mukul Mangalik, who is organising the event along with his students and those from drama and dance societies, said: “It was a chance meeting with Tom in Lucknow and a cancelled performance due to visa issues for the Pakistani musicians that enabled us to organise the cultural shows.”

He said the event does not receive corporate funding. Entry to the festival is free.
