Heavy drama ensued after a ball smashed the windscreen of the private vehicle in which Delhi Minister Rakhi Birla was travelling in Mangolpuri here on Sunday evening.
Although the police have registered a first information report, preliminary investigations reveal that it was a misdirected throw by a child that landed on windscreen and damaged it, the police said. Ms. Birla managed to escape unhurt, they added.
A police officer said the Women and Child Welfare Minister had gone to a temple in R-Block of Mangolpuri close to her house in Outer Delhi when the incident took place. She was travelling in her private car at the time of the incident.
Based on her statement, a case regarding throwing of a stone at her vehicle was immediately registered.
However, closer examination revealed that the damage was apparently caused due to a ball.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues, including Ms. Birla, have so far refused to take any security cover.
Undeterred by the incident, the journalist-turned-politician maintained that she did not need any security cover.
The security wing of the Delhi Police said they had asked the local police to submit a report, based on which any decision to deploy personnel will be taken.
As of now, none of the Cabinet members enjoy a security cover. But policemen are sent to manage crowds in event Mr. Kejriwal is travelling to a crowded area. There is, however, no such provision for the other Ministers, said a police officer.
