Incessant rain lashed the Capital on Friday leading to traffic snarls and waterlogging in areas around south and north Delhi.
The rainfall brought relief for residents with the maximum temperature recorded at 27.5 degrees Celsius, seven degrees below normal for this time of the year.
The maximum temperature recorded the previous day was 35.4 degrees Celsius. The Safdarjung weather station, which is regarded as the official record of the city, received 18.4 mm of rain between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Similarly, weather stations at Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Narela received 17 mm, 22.3 mm, 22.7 mm and 32 mm rainfall respectively.
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the worst traffic-hit areas were Greater Kailash, Jahangirpuri, Lajpat Nagar, Mukundpur, CR Park and South Extension. Hauls were also aggravated due to office rush in areas around ITO, India Gate, Sardar Patel Marg, Dhaula Kuan, Moti Bagh, Rao Tula Ram Marg and Outer Ring Road near Malviya Nagar.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi said that water-logging complaints were reported from areas such as Peetampura, Aksharham, Bhairon Marg, Nizamuddin roundabout, and Delhi Gate.
The MeT Department has forecast cloudy sky for September 23 with light rain and thunder showers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 30 and 20 degree Celsius respectively.

The extended forecast says that the sky will be generally cloudy becoming partly cloudy from September 25 with a chances of thunder showers on September 24. They added that the rainfall was due to a weather system formed due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation.
