The MeT Department has said that heat-wave like conditions are likely over Delhi and surrounding areas on April 17 and 18.
Arrangements at zoo
Meanwhile, as Delhiites sweat it out, the Delhi zoo has started making arrangements to help keep the animals cool by installing water sprinklers, desert coolers and fans. Zoo authorities have ensured that ponds are filled with water and pressure pumps are being used to bathe larger animals.
To help animals beat the heat every year, the zoo ensures there is a change in the diet of the animals as well. The meat intake is reduced and fruit intake increased. The animals are also given vitamin supplements or electrolyte powder to beat dehydration.
