: Transport Minister Gopal Rai on Friday directed the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to step up the registration of buses to be operated under the Paryavaran Bus Seva to ensure commuter comfort during the next odd-even scheme.
Announcing that there would be incentives for those whose service delivery was deemed satisfactory, Mr. Rai said 25 monitoring teams will evaluate the performance of DTC officials in relation to the implementation of the scheme.
“Mr. Rai discussed various details pertaining to the scheme with depot managers and other representatives of the DTC and issued instructions that each DTC bus must bear a banner, have 50 percent of the seats reserved for women passengers, must be clean and well-maintained and have deployment of marshals,” said a senior government official.
“They were also directed to ensure that break-down teams were always ready to keep the fleet on track and that buses plied on the extreme left side of roads; there would be disciplinary action against depot managers if any of these conditions were found not being met,” the official added.
Mr. Rai also issued directions to ensure that a team of 500 bus marshals would be deployed across cue shelters to ensure seamless circulation of buses and ensure minimal hassle to commuters.
The Transport Minister also met with representatives of private schools directing them to ensure that DTC buses being utilised by them to ferry children were allowed to report back to their respective depots by 8 a.m. so that they could be pressed into service for the general public.
Mr. Rai also asked the schools' representatives to cooperate with the government in the organisation of a ‘Picnic for Environment’, intended to create awareness about the odd-even scheme among 2,000 to 3,500 school children. The picnic will be organised at the India Gate lawns after 9 a.m. on April 13.
