Radio taxis go anonymous in Delhi

December 13, 2014 09:46 am | Updated April 07, 2016 04:04 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Have you wondered why you haven’t spotted a single Ola and TaxiForSure cab in the city for the past two-three days, but the cabs are still available when you book them through the mobile app?

After the alleged rape of a woman by an Uber cab driver, the Delhi Transport Department banned all radio taxi services not registered with it. Ola and TaxiForSure fall in that category too. However, it has been found that these services continue to stay in business. After the ban, these cab services have devised a new strategy to continue working without legal hassles — by just removing the company’s stickers.

“Remove the company’s sticker from the car and you are good to go. Who will find out if my cab is from Ola or some other banned radio taxi service if it does not have a sticker,” said a radio taxi driver.

“When the Transport Department banned these cabs, the cab owners called up their drivers and asked them all to remove company stickers. Why should everyone pay for the mistake of one man? If the government bans all radio taxis, how will we earn our livelihood?”
