Two members of an inter-State drug cartel have been arrested for allegedly supplying heroin and other drugs in the Capital. Contraband worth ₹5.6 crore was recovered from the accused, one of whom is a quack, the police said on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that Manohar Singh alias Doctor, 31 and his associate Fakruddin Rangrej, 61, were arrested on Thursday from Rohini after a tip-off about their arrival near Japanese Park.

The police said that Manohar, from Madhya Pradesh, used to work as a helper in a hospital in his village.

“Later, he started working as a quack doctor due to which people started calling him Doctor,” said Mr. Yadav.

He came in touch with local drug suppliers five years ago who got him involved in procuring and selling heroin and Alprazolam in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi-NCR along with M.P., the police said.

Mr. Yadav said that Manohar hired Fakruddin, who owns a clothes business, as his carrier two years ago.

Concealed in clothes

Explaining their modus operandi, the police said that Manohar used to ask Fakruddin to carry the drugs by road concealing them in readymade clothes while he himself used to travel by train. The two would then meet in the city and sell the contraband to local suppliers. “Two kilograms of heroin and four kilograms of Alprazolam have been recovered from their possession,” said the DCP.
