With the Municipal Corporation of Delhi already having suspended four officials in connection with the Lalita Park building collapse case, Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta has demanded that the Delhi Government also act properly in the matter by punishing those in the Delhi Jal Board who were responsible for water-logging in the area that led to the collapse.

Mr. Gupta said the fifth floor of the building came up in 2005 when the Congress was in power in the MCD. ``Still the BJP-ruled MCD has acted sternly against those responsible for the collapse and has not made a political issue out of it. But he lamented that the Delhi Government has reneged on its promise of ordering a judicial probe into the matter since it feared that its own role would also stand grossly exposed.”

``The day following the collapse, Delhi Finance Minister A.K. Walia had admitted that the building collapsed because there was water-logging in the basement. Dr. Walia had himself stated that the DJB is responsible for the Lalita Park incident. Since Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is chairperson of the Jal Board, we want to know what are the reasons because of which no action has been taken against the officials of the DJB responsible for the incident,’’ the BJP leader said.
