Running from pillar to post for the past several months seeking redress to her complaint against illegal dumping of garbage in Sector 17A here, its residents’ welfare association president Sushma Gehlot had hoped for an on-the-spot resolution of her problem during an interaction with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at the Janata Darbar on Sunday. But all her hopes were dashed when Mr. Khattar left the Darbar before it was her turn to speak.

Her’s was not the only case. More than 200 people waiting for their turn for hours outside John Hall, the venue of Janata Darbar , were left fuming.

‘No action yet’

“A mini landfill site has come up in our sector and is occasionally set afire making it difficult for the residents to breathe. I have been to the municipal corporation’s Joint Commissioner, Commissioner and even Forest Department officials with my complaint over the past several months. But no action has been taken. I read about this Janata Darbar in a newspaper and decided to appear before the CM. But after waiting for more than five hours, I was told that he had left,” said Ms. Gehlot.

She claimed that she was pushed aside when she tried to enter the hall. “The officials took away my complaint saying that the matter would be addressed soon. But they took my acknowledgement for complaint. Now I have no evidence to prove that I had made a complaint to the Chief Minister,” said Ms. Gehlot.

Of the 282 registrations made, Mr. Khattar gave personal hearing to only 50-odd complainants.

A group of home buyers holding flats at Universal Aura project in Sector 82 said that the officials had taken their complaint against the builder, but they were clueless about the follow-up mechanism. “We don’t know whom to meet for the follow-up. It is a complete mess,” said one of the home buyers.

“If the Chief Minister did not have time to hear us, then why did they make us wait for so long,” complained Ram Niwas, a resident of Karola village. Some of the people had come from as far as Nuh and Palwal for the hearing.

Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said the CM had directed the district administration to examine all the complaints received at the Janata Darbar carefully for prompt action within 10 days.
