Pub employee gang-raped

March 13, 2012 11:15 am | Updated 11:15 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A 23-year-old woman working at a pub in a prominent shopping mall in neighbouring Gurgaon was allegedly abducted by some young men in the early hours of Monday while she was on her way home after duty hours and was gang-raped at an unidentified place.

A case has been registered against unknown persons at the DLF Phase-II police station in this connection.

The woman, a resident of Badarpur, accompanied by her teenaged brother was on her way home in a taxi around 2-30 a.m. after the pub closed when six persons, all in their early 20s, allegedly gave chase to the vehicle and waylaid it a few hundred metres from the shopping mall and forcibly pulled her out. The culprits then pushed her inside their Maruti-800 car and drove away. “The taxi driver and the victim's brother were too scared to react. According to the victim, she had brought her brother along when she came for duty in the evening as he wanted to see the shopping mall,” said a senior police officer.

According to the victim, the young men took her to a house at an unidentified place where another young man joined them and then they allegedly took turns to rape her. Three of them then dumped her near the Chhattarpur metro station around 5-30 a.m. in the car and from there the victim reached her house. “She then reached the Mehrauli police station in Delhi and reported the matter to the police. The Delhi Police brought her to Gurgaon and a case was registered,” said a senior Gurgaon Police officer.

“We are in the process of procuring closed-circuit television footage from the pub inside the shopping mall. We have important leads and hope to crack the case soon,” the officer said.

The victim purportedly told the police that she had an altercation with one of her female co-workers two days ago and had seen two of the alleged rapists with her in the pub a few hours before the incident. “We have recorded her statement and are probing this angle as well,” the officer said.

In January, a 20-year-old Manipuri woman, who was waiting for a conveyance on her way home from work, was offered lift by a sales executive near IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon and allegedly raped in Dwarka.
