Protests banned outside Kejriwal’s house till Aug. 30

August 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - New Delhi:

As per the Delhi government’s orders, no protest, public meetings and sloganeering can take place outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence in Civil Lines, north Delhi, till August 30.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) B.K. Jha issued an order under Section 144 of the CrPC, restricting demonstrations, making of speech by any political party outside the Chief Minister’s house in view of ‘serious law and order problems’.

The Chief Minister is in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, undergoing a 10-day long Vipassana treatment. After that he will be campaigning in Punjab for the upcoming Assembly polls for most of August.

Undemocratic step: BJP

Condemning the move, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said: “It seems the ban has been imposed through SDM as autocrat Mr. Kejriwal is in no mood to tolerate any democratic demonstration or protest against him.” He added that it was “really shocking” that such an “anti-democratic step” has been taken by the government.
