A dip in prosecution related to the provisions of the odd-even scheme was recorded on the second day of its implementation even as the Delhi government termed it a success on Saturday.

However, when compared to prosecution figures from day two of the enforcement of the scheme in January, the number of fines issued on Saturday was double. On January 2 the number of fines was recorded at around 500.

As many as 1,002 drivers were issued fines by the Delhi Traffic Police and Enforcement teams constituted by the Delhi government as opposed to 1311 prosecutions on Friday. This, even as Transport Minister Gopal Rai said additional arrangements had been made to ensure seamless enforcement of the scheme on Monday – the first working day of next week.

Like Friday, the Traffic Police issued the maximum number of challans for violations which were recorded at 678 while the Delhi government's Enforcement teams issued 324 fines.

According to traffic police, the Central range recorded 86, New Delhi range 40, Central district 46, Eastern range 97, East district 62, North east district 35, Northern range 56, North district 56, Outer range 95, North west range 49, Outer district 46, Southern range 202, South district 49 South east range 153, Western range 142, West range 82 and South west district 62.

Meanwhile, Transport Minster Gopal Rai, after having constituted a five-member team to ensure the seamless operation of the Delhi Metro network on Monday, visited city schools to apprise himself of arrangements made by parents to drop and pick up their wards to class.

“Parents seemed to have opted for a mix of three options: while many have gone for carpooling on cars permitted to ply and others took to using bikes for the purpose even as a large number of women could be seen outside schools” Mr. Rai claimed.

“I also spoke to school representatives about whether any guardian had asked for bus facilities to be extended or for any other extra arrangement to be made but it was learnt that there were no such requests,” Mr. Rai said. The Transport Minister further appealed to the parents to employ similar options on Monday.
