Ahead of the Municipal elections, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Standing Committee chairman Yogender Chandolia on Friday presented a proposal to de-notify 140 commercial or mixed land use roads in seven zones of the city where very little commercial activity is actually taking place.
“The proposal was referred back in order to take up the issue with the Union Urban Development Ministry for amendments in rules. The roads were declared commercial and mixed land use after following all legalities, and there are no existing rules that allow for de-notification of such use,” said Mr. Chandolia.
The proposal was referred by members at the Standing Committee meeting on Friday.
These roads were declared commercial and mixed land use among 2,183 roads approved in 2006, as per provisions of Master Plan 2021. After a recent survey, however, it was found that the roads were largely residential. “There is no provision for de-notifying the roads under the existing rules. The parking and conversion charge for non-residential use has also been deposited for these notified roads by the users as per rules and under no rule can they be stopped from mixed land or commercial use,” said Mr. Chandolia.
If the roads are de-notified, the roads will lose their commercial/mixed land use status and affect several people. Mr. Chandolia further said that if someone in these areas closes non- residential activity due to personal reasons, it could affect the remaining users who are lawfully using the properties for non-residential purposes.
