A six-day business fair “Printpack India-2011,” highlighting the growth story of the country's graphic arts industry, opens at the Pragati Maidan here this Sunday.
Titled “India: Emerging Leader of Graphic Arts Industry,” the fair acknowledges that literary growth in the country has created an unprecedented demand for the printed word in the form of newspapers, textbooks and magazines. As a result, this demand has created avenues for manufacturers of graphic arts machinery and equipment.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) chairman and managing director Subas Pani said the 10th edition of the fair will showcase developments in the printing and packaging industry.
“Covering an area of around 18,000 mt sq, from hall no.2 to 12A, this year's edition has seen a 25 per cent growth in terms of space utilisation. Like the India International Trade Fair, we want the fair to cover the entire sprawling exhibition ground. ‘Printpack' has emerged as a brand name, and we hope its image goes higher. We will showcase the latest Indian and foreign innovations in printing and packaging,” said Dr. Pani.
Speaking on the occasion, Indian Printing, Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers' Association (IPAMA) president N.S. Manku said the fair assumed added significance because the world was looking at India as a one-stop sourcing platform for graphic arts machinery and equipment.
“Seventy per cent of web offset printing machines are supplied by India. As China has big infrastructure, it can only supply large scale volumes of books. So the small orders inevitably come India's way.”
Eleven countries, including the United States, Canada, China, Egypt, Korea, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are participating in the fair, that seeks to reassure buyers from all over the world of the quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness of the machinery and equipment for printing, packaging and signage.
The ITPO and the IPAMA are jointly organising the fair. To provide maximum information, participants will focus on displays, live-demos and printed literature.
The premier printing and packaging exhibition will highlight digitalisation, automation in the classical printing methods, the digital printing process and integrated solutions on display with live demonstration of pre-press, in-press, post-press operations in these solutions.
