Power distribution company NDPL on Monday disconnected electricity connections to 30 chambers of advocates at the Tis Hazari Court premises here for non-payment of electricity dues. The total dues amount to Rs.3,94,000.“It’s unfortunate that despite several reminders and disconnection advice, the dues were not being cleared. We even held meetings with the Bar Association of Tis Hazari Courts in order to have the dues cleared. We were left with no option but to disconnect supply,” said an NDPL spokesperson.
The company claims there are close to 400 chambers at the Tis Hazari Courts which do not have metered connections and are engaged in direct theft of electricity to meet their needs. “NDPL in coordination with the Bar Association also organised camps in the court premise to facilitate new connections, but the response was extremely poor and only 19 chambers have so far applied for metered connections,” said the spokesperson.
