Power cuts make Delhiites sweat

May 25, 2013 09:30 am | Updated June 08, 2016 07:08 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Power cuts continued to haunt the city, even as the mercury climbed to a high of 45 degrees Celsius. Consumers in several parts of the city complained of outages and unresponsive discoms.

Highest power demand

On Friday the demand for power rose to a high of 5,214 MW, which has been the highest so far. “It was unbearably hot and there was no power supply for at least two hours on Friday, this when we spent practically the whole Thursday night without power. The supply was disrupted between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. and just when the inverter batteries were being recharged the supply was discontinued yet again,” said a resident of Gulmohar Park.

Complaints of power cuts were also reported from Laxmi Nagar, Dwarka, Okhla and Preet Vihar.

Power department officials and the discoms however maintained that the demand was met without any major load shedding and intermittent, short duration power cuts were reported only on account of local faults due to disruptions in frequency.
